The New Decision of Mr Ahmadinejad's regarding Women
One of the two new cases cited from Mr Ahmadinejad during the last few days is that he has opposed the bludgeon methods against women's non-full-hijab (improper Hijab) and the other is that in a direction he has asked the head of Sports Department to provide the foundation for the presence of women at the Sports Stadiums. We have to wait and see what would happen in practice though. But Mr Ahamdinejad has this luck that different departments of the state would not take obstruct ional actions against the president as they used to.
The presence of women had turned into a complex problem. Recently during Mr Ahmadinejad's presidency some of them who had gone to a stadium were kidnapped for a short time and a few of them beaten. I will never forget once Iran had won Australia to go to the World Cup and a national happiness had overwhelmed the country, boys and girls had gone to welcome the National Team at Azadi Stadium and what a pressure came upon the head of the Sports Department and the president's office to send back the girls out of the stadium. We, instead of enjoying this happiness were thinking what to do in the face of all these pressures. I wish I could explain more. I'm writing this in response to the fellow journalist who was asking me this morning that why such an order was not issued by Mr Khatami.
The reality is that sports do not recognize men or women. Girls especially those interested in football are not less than boys. I don't know why but I don't think this decision of the president's would become practical-maybe because of the past or the baseless pessimism or even because of what I know-but how great it would be if possible! Mr Ahmadinejad is ready on the scene by the slogan of "We Can"; I hope he can so that our young generation can watch their favorite champions play. Our previous reasoning never heard was that: the presence of ladies at the stadiums would result in more politeness and dignity and gender discrimination in watching football- a canonical and legal right- would disappear.
