Iranian Sociology from a Different Point of View
We are in the habit of only reminding the positive points in our history. I have recently-late though- read the book Familiar Sociology by Hassan Naraghi published by Akhavan Publishing Co. This book has listed the black points of the Iranian history with a very special kind of courage. The titles of these points are as follows; we are strangers with history, truth-refrainers and secretive, pretentious, hero-makers and autocracy-stricken, unorganized,
hypocrites and opportunists, sentimental and slogan-stricken, have constant illusion of conspiracy, irresponsible, law-evaders and willing to trespass, have constant expectations and discontentment, jealous and envious , know-alls , truthful and some other examples of our characteristics. Mr Naraghi has mentioned many historical cases. I think it is necessary for us Iranians to sometimes cast a critical look at our history and ourselves. This book has been republished 13 times. There may be no solutions suggested in the book and this would drag the reader into a real historical disappointment regarding the reformations. But knowledge over our mistakes and defects is a prerequisite to correction. I also believe that big changes are taking place in these behaviors. Another important thing pointed out many times in this book is; Authorities have always been from among these people, they would step up to the other side of the management desk with the same beliefs they had this side and start solving the nation-government problems this way and would consider all at the same level of guilt. If we are ready to address ourselves and not to consider any exceptions this book is beneficial.
